Florida Truck Driver Found With No Valid CDL and Marijuana When His Semi Struck Train and Caused Derailment in Georgia

0

MONROE COUNTY, GEORGIA — A Florida truck driver was arrested early Wednesday morning after his semi-truck overturned and struck a train at a railroad crossing in Macon County, causing a train car to derail — and a subsequent investigation found he was driving without a valid commercial driver’s license and had marijuana in his possession.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia

Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded at approximately 3 a.m. on May 6, 2026, to a reported overturned tractor-trailer on Highway 83 North at Berner Loop. The driver, Kheino Bennett, 44, of Riviera Beach, Florida, told deputies he saw the railroad crossing arm down with lights flashing and the approaching train but realized too late that he could not stop in time. He applied his brakes abruptly and steered to avoid the train. The maneuver caused the truck to overturn and strike one of the train’s cargo cars.

Preliminary investigation indicates the impact caused a train car to derail, bringing the train to a stop in the area of Juliette Road and McCrackin Street.

During the investigation, deputies found Bennett was operating the commercial motor vehicle without a valid license or driving privileges. He was also found in possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and drug-related objects.

Bennett was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug-related objects, and operation of a commercial motor vehicle without a valid license or driving privileges.

Highway 83 North at Berner Loop has since reopened. Juliette Road at McCrackin Street remains closed and is expected to remain closed for a lengthy period of time. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Semi Driver Who Died in Cincinnati’s Fiery I-71 Crash Identified as Marvin ‘Big Marv’ Poole, Father of Five — Good Samaritans Fought Desperately to Save Him Until Flames Made It Impossible

0

CINCINNATI, OHIO — The semi-truck driver who died Sunday evening after his truck crashed into a wall and caught fire on Fort Washington Way near the Lytle Tunnel has been identified by his family as Marvin Poole, known to loved ones as “Big Marv.” He leaves behind five children.

New dashcam footage obtained from a driver who was directly behind the truck shows the moments leading up to the crash and the desperate rescue attempt that followed.

What the Dashcam Shows

Randall Ross was driving behind the semi on northbound Fort Washington Way when the truck began to veer onto the shoulder, crossed into the left lane, struck the guardrail, then crossed back to the right and slammed into a concrete wall — sending sparks flying before coming to a violent stop under I-471. Ross immediately ran out of his vehicle and onto the interstate to try to help.

Ross said Poole was already unconscious when he reached the truck. He jumped up and pulled on the door as other Good Samaritans stopped to help. Multiple people reached through the window in a desperate attempt to free the driver. But the growing flames made rescue impossible. Poole had become tangled in his seatbelt. Ross said after several minutes, the group realized they had done all they could. They stepped back and watched helplessly as the flames grew. Ross said he required medical attention following his efforts. He provided all four dashcam videos to investigators.

Poole’s mother wrote on social media: “Thank you all for trying to save my son. So heartbroken.” His brother expressed gratitude for the rescuers on his personal page. “My family and I are incredibly thankful for your courageous act; there are no words to fully convey our appreciation,” he wrote.

Family Tributes

Poole’s brother Lloyd wrote: “My mother just broke the news and I was waiting for her to acknowledge that we lost my brother Marvin Poole today. And it sucks so bad — I was all hyped up to celebrate my birthday coming up in 5 days and now I’ll never be able to celebrate it fully again. I didn’t always get along with Big Maav, but I always loved Marvin. My heart so heavy. Rest in power to my brother Marvin. Your legacy lives on in your 5 children and everyone whose life you impacted. I’m hurting knowing what you went through. I love you Marv.”

The mother of one of Poole’s children also posted: “I really can’t believe that you’re gone. I know we never saw eye to eye. But this feels so unreal. Thank you for giving me our son and I’m going to continue to do my best to raise our boy into a respectful man. Sleep in peace, Big Marv.”

Background

The crash occurred at approximately 6:51 p.m. on Sunday on northbound I-71 near the Lytle Tunnel entrance, not far from Heritage Bank Center. The truck struck a barrier wall, caught fire, and trapped Poole inside the cab. Cincinnati Fire Department crews arrived approximately six minutes after the crash — longer than typical due to the difficult location. Smoke and flames were visible from miles away. Despite the severity of the fire, ODOT confirmed no structural damage to the overpass or roadway. I-71 and U.S. 50 have since reopened. The crash remains under investigation by Cincinnati Police.

Massachusetts Man Sentenced to 23 Months After Feeding CLP Exam Answers Through Bluetooth Earpiece Hidden Under RMV Headphones — Charged $3,000 for the Service

0

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS — A Roxbury man was sentenced on May 1, 2026 to time served — approximately 23 months — for helping an individual fraudulently  by feeding answers through a Bluetooth earpiece hidden under exam headphones.

Frank Castro, 53, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Angel Kelley. He had been convicted in January 2025 of unlawful production of an identification document following a federal grand jury indictment in April 2024.

How the Scheme Worked

On October 18, 2021, Castro told an undercover agent he could help him obtain a Massachusetts CLP for $3,000. On December 10, Castro explained the method — the agent would smuggle a Bluetooth device into the testing area at a Massachusetts RMV, place it in his ear, and cover it with the headphones provided during the exam. Castro would listen to the audio questions through the connected device and feed the correct answers in real time.

On December 22, 2021, the undercover agent deposited $3,000 into Castro’s bank account and proceeded to the Danvers RMV to take the exam. The plan worked as described — Castro listened to the questions and provided answers through the Bluetooth connection. The undercover agent passed the exam and received a valid Massachusetts CLP.

In Massachusetts, a CLP is required before a driver can obtain a full commercial driver’s license.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the U.S. Department of Transportation Office of Inspector General. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lauren Maynard and David G. Tobin of the Criminal Division prosecuted the case.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
