BEAUMONT, TEXAS — Two tractor-trailers struck overpasses on Interstate 10 in Jefferson County on Wednesday within 11 miles of each other, with both losing their loads in the process and forcing multiple lane closures along the same corridor.
The first strike happened on westbound I-10 at the FM 365 overpass. A semi hauling a large metal frame structure struck the overpass, dislodging the load from the trailer. TxDOT closed the FM 365 overpass and all westbound I-10 main lanes while crews assessed damage to the overpass structure.
About 11 miles away, a second truck struck an overpass at Cardinal Drive on westbound/southbound I-10 and lost a piece of construction equipment, which fell directly into the lane of travel and completely blocked the roadway. Beaumont Police diverted traffic to Washington Boulevard and College Street while officers worked to clear the scene. That freeway reopened at approximately 3:12 p.m.
Motorists were urged to use alternate routes and expect delays in both areas. TxDOT crews assessed both overpasses for structural damage.
