SAXON, WISCONSIN — An unoccupied semi-truck rolled into a natural gas excavation site Tuesday morning, rupturing a pipe and releasing liquid natural gas that spread across the work site and onto nearby properties, prompting a no-fly zone, a power shutoff, and the evacuation of a nearby neighborhood.
The incident happened around 10 a.m. on August 25 at the site of the Enbridge Line 5 pipeline project in the town of Saxon. The parked truck rolled into the site without a driver, striking a pipe and causing the rupture. Video from the scene showed a liquid natural gas cloud spreading across the area.
As a precaution, a no-fly zone was established over the area, electricity was shut off, one road was closed, and nearby residents were evacuated. No injuries were reported.
