SIDNEY, OHIO — A truck hauling animal organs and byproducts lost part of its load on southbound Interstate 75 between mile markers 92 and 93 Friday afternoon, sending animal intestines and other parts onto the highway and prompting a washdown by Sidney firefighters.
The incident was reported around 4 p.m. on September 4. The truck, bearing signage for G.A. Wintzer and Son Co. of Wapakoneta, Ohio, came to a stop just north of the Exit 92 overpass. A second sign on the trailer read “not human food.”
The driver was seen unwrapping the trailer’s tarp and manually throwing the spilled organs back into the trailer before firefighters arrived. Sidney firefighters then used a hose connected to Quint 2 to wash the remaining animal byproducts off the highway. Crews had difficulty getting traffic to stop while they worked. A passing driver on the northbound side confirmed seeing the spilled byproducts from their vehicle.
Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the spill.
