GILES COUNTY, TENNESSEE — A Tennessee Highway Patrol Motor Carrier Plus trooper patrolling I-65 near the Giles County scale facility stopped a semi-truck that bypassed the weigh station and found a severely cracked wheel on the steering axle — a defect that placed the truck out of service until the wheel was replaced.

THP used the find as a reminder that skipping pre-trip inspections puts everyone on the road at risk. “A thorough pre-trip inspection can help identify dangerous defects before they lead to a roadside violation, equipment failure, or a serious crash,” THP said.

THP reminded drivers to inspect wheels and tires for cracks and damage, check brakes and steering components, address any safety issues before driving, and never skip the pre-trip inspection. “Safety starts before the trip begins. Inspect your equipment. Protect yourself and everyone sharing the road. Every trip. Every time.”
