ELMORE COUNTY, ALABAMA — A log truck driver was trapped inside an overturned truck and airlifted to a hospital Friday night after a crash with a Jeep Gladiator on Central Plank Road in Elmore County, with a diesel fuel spill at the scene prompting notification of the Alabama Department of Environmental Management.
Santuck Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched at 9:16 p.m. to the 10,500 block of Central Plank Road for a report of a single vehicle overturned. An off-duty Haynes employee called in separately to report the driver was entrapped. It was not until units arrived that crews realized the overturned vehicle with entrapment was the log truck.
The driver was swiftly extricated, assessed, and loaded into Haynes LifeFlight for transport to a local hospital. The Jeep Gladiator had three occupants — two adults and a young child. Both adults were transported by Haynes Ground crew for further assessment and treatment. The child was treated at the scene and not transported.
Due to the complexity of the scene, multiple agencies worked together to manage the crash, the entrapment, and the fuel spill. Responding agencies included Santuck FD, Seman FD, Wetumpka FD, Haynes Ground, Haynes LifeFlight, EMA, ALDOT, ECSO, ALEA, Jones Towing, and Powell Towing. ADEM was notified due to the diesel fuel spill on scene.
