KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer on northbound Interstate 435 near Northeast 48th Street in Clay County early Friday morning while standing or walking between two lanes of the highway.
Kansas City Police Department responded around 3:40 a.m. A white Peterbilt semi hauling a tanker trailer was traveling northbound when it struck the pedestrian. The person was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver stopped immediately, remained on scene, and cooperated with the investigation. The driver was not injured.
Northbound I-435 was closed at Missouri Highway 210 for approximately three hours following the crash before all lanes reopened. The identity of the pedestrian has not been released.
