STRATFORD, ONTARIO, CANADA — A Ministry of Transportation officer stopped a loaded dump truck on Lorne Avenue East in Stratford on September 23 and discovered it had absolutely no front brakes — none — and ordered it off the road immediately.
While assisting the MTO with inspections in the same area, Stratford Police Service Traffic Unit officers also stopped a pickup truck carrying a load of unsecured steel in the bed. The back of the truck was sitting significantly lower than the front from the excess weight. After weighing the vehicle, officers determined the weight on the rear axle was significantly higher than the manufacturer’s rating.
“A loaded dump truck without the required brakes is a major hazard on our roadways. Steel flying out of the bed of a pickup truck is a major hazard on our roadways. Conducting proper pre-trip inspections on your commercial vehicles can save a life,” Stratford Police said.
