BOSSIER PARISH, LOUISIANA — Andrew Morrow, 29, of Ruston, was killed Thursday evening after the Mack truck tractor he was driving entered a railroad crossing on Old Highway 71 near U.S. Highway 71 in the Elm Grove area and collided with an approaching Canadian Pacific Kansas City train. Two CPKC employees suffered minor injuries and were treated at a local hospital.
Louisiana State Police Troop G responded at approximately 5 p.m. on August 13. The preliminary investigation found that Morrow’s 2024 Mack truck tractor and the CPKC train were both approaching the intersection of U.S. Highway 71 and Old Highway 71 when, for reasons still under investigation, Morrow entered the railroad crossing and the collision occurred. Due to the severity of the crash, it was unknown whether he was wearing a seatbelt. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators do not suspect impairment but standard toxicology samples were collected.
Morrow was 29 years old. The crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana State Police used the tragedy to remind all drivers of railroad crossing safety. “A crossbuck sign functions as a yield sign, and where a stop sign is present, drivers must stop, look in both directions, and proceed only when it is safe. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions like these can mean the difference between life and death,” LSP said.
