LOUISIANA — Louisiana State Police cited 26 commercial truck drivers during an aerial enforcement operation targeting left-lane violations on the Interstate 10 Atchafalaya Basin Bridge.
The enforcement detail was conducted on Aug. 13, 2026, along the Basin Bridge in St. Martin and Iberville parishes.
Enforcement Followed Complaints About Trucks in Left Lane
Louisiana State Police said the operation was launched after receiving numerous complaints about commercial motor vehicles traveling in the left lane on the bridge.
Commercial vehicles are required to remain in the right lane on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge under posted traffic control restrictions.
LSP said trucks traveling in the left lane violate the law and can create serious safety and traffic concerns.
Air Support and Ground Units Used
The enforcement detail included Louisiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Regions I and II, along with LSP Air Support.
Video shared by troopers showed both aerial and ground patrol units being used during the operation.
Troopers conducted 26 commercial vehicle inspections during the detail.
26 Citations Issued
LSP said troopers issued 26 citations for disregarding traffic control devices requiring commercial motor vehicles to remain in the right lane.
Troopers also identified four additional safety violations.
One truck driver was placed out of service.
Trucks Banned From Left Lane for Safety
For years, commercial trucks have been restricted from using the left lane on the 18-mile Atchafalaya Basin Bridge due to safety concerns.
LSP said it will continue proactive enforcement efforts to improve safety and keep traffic moving along the bridge.
“We’ve heard your concerns,” Louisiana State Police said.
