OAK GROVE, KENTUCKY — A truck driver is in critical condition at a Nashville hospital after his cab was pushed off its frame and he was ejected when a tractor-trailer rear-ended another on westbound Interstate 24 at the 86-mile marker in Christian County Thursday morning.
The Christian County Sheriff’s Office said the crash occurred around 10:35 a.m. when one tractor-trailer struck the back of another. The force of the impact pushed the cab of one truck completely off its frame. The driver, an adult male, was ejected and airlifted to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville with significant injuries. His condition is listed as critical. The driver of the other truck was not injured.
The westbound lanes were closed for an extended period for investigation, vehicle recovery, and cleanup. Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes. Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department and Christian County Rescue assisted at the scene alongside Hopkinsville Fire and EMS and CCSO.
Hopkinsville Fire and EMS used the crash to again call attention to the corridor’s troubling safety record. “This stretch of Interstate 24 continues to be the scene of serious traffic crashes. We encourage all motorists to slow down, eliminate distractions, maintain a safe following distance, and remain vigilant while traveling through the area,” the department said.
