Tractor-Trailer Hits Overhead Exit Signs on Pennsylvania I-81, Causing 7-Mile Traffic Backup

SCRANTON, PENNSYLVANIA — A tractor-trailer struck overhead exit signs on northbound Interstate 81 in Scranton on Thursday afternoon, forcing traffic down to one lane at the Biden/Central Scranton Expressway and backing up traffic for seven miles in Lackawanna County.

PennDOT reported the lane restriction as of 2:20 p.m. on October 8. The estimated reopening time was later that evening. Drivers were encouraged to seek alternate routes.
