DENTON, TEXAS — A 13-year-old Sanger ISD student died Thursday after the school bus they were riding in veered off the road, struck a culvert, and rolled over at the intersection of Huling Road and Lois Road East in Denton. Three other students and the bus driver were not injured.
Texas DPS said the bus was traveling northbound when it left the roadway and struck the culvert before rolling over. The 13-year-old was transported to a local hospital where they died from their injuries. The bus driver, 38-year-old Jesse Padgett, and the three other students on board were unharmed. The cause of the crash is under investigation by Texas DPS.
Sanger ISD released a statement Thursday evening. “We are heartbroken to share that a Sanger ISD school bus was involved in a single-vehicle accident this afternoon. Tragically, one student lost their life in the accident. No other students were injured. Our hearts are with the student’s family and all those impacted by this tragedy.”
The name of the student and the school they attended have not been released.
