HANOVER COUNTY, VIRGINIA — A tractor-trailer transporting two up-armored Humvees lost its load on Interstate 295 Friday morning after the driver reported the vehicle’s steering locked while exiting, sending the rig into the gore area, across southbound Route 301 lanes, and into another vehicle before the Humvees came off the trailer.

Virginia State Police responded around 7 a.m. to the exit ramp from I-295 to southbound Route 301 at Exit 41B near the Hanover County-Henrico County line. The driver was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The other vehicle involved sustained damage. The crash remains under investigation.

The following closures were in effect following the crash: southbound I-295 at Exit 41B, northbound I-295 at Exit 41B, and all southbound lanes of Route 301. Drivers were advised to seek alternate routes.
