FLAGSTAFF, ARIZONA — An AZDPS trooper on I-40 near Flagstaff noticed a semi-truck drift across the solid white line, through the rumble strip, and into the emergency lane — not once but twice — on September 2, and pulled up alongside to see what was happening. The driver had pulled his sleep curtain across the door in an apparent attempt to hide the phone in his hand.
When stopped, the driver told the trooper he was listening to a church service and only looking at the screen sometimes. He was cited before being allowed to continue.
“Listen all you like, hands-free. Even a ‘quick glance’ at your phone can lead to a quick trip into danger. Keep your eyes up, your hands on the wheel, and take care of each other out there,” AZDPS said.
