VANDERBURGH COUNTY, INDIANA — Six people were injured Monday morning after a tractor-trailer was unable to stop while traffic was entering a construction area on Interstate 69, causing a five-vehicle chain-reaction crash, according to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened at approximately 8:57 a.m. on Sept. 14 on southbound I-69 near Boonville New Harmony Road.
Five Vehicles Involved
Deputies responded to the crash with injuries and found five vehicles involved.
A total of six people were injured.
The sheriff’s office said none of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening. All six injured people were transported by ambulance to local hospitals for treatment.
Tractor-Trailer Driver Reported Possible Brake Problems
According to the preliminary investigation, vehicles were entering a construction area when a tractor-trailer was unable to stop and rear-ended another vehicle.
The impact caused a chain-reaction crash involving several additional vehicles.
The tractor-trailer driver remained at the scene and cooperated with deputies.
Authorities said the driver reported that he may have experienced brake problems with the vehicle.
State Police Inspector Assisting
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Deputies said alcohol or drugs do not appear to have been a factor at this time.
However, all drivers consented to chemical testing in accordance with Indiana law regarding crashes involving injuries.
An Indiana State Police motor vehicle inspector is assisting with the investigation because a tractor-trailer was involved.
