WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s August 31 emergency crackdown on entry-level driver training covered 111 entries across 20 states, 23 online operations, and four inactive or unknown-location providers. Each school had trained at least 10 drivers later cited for failing English-language proficiency requirements at roadside — more than 5,000 drivers total.
Texas and Pennsylvania led with 13 physical-location entries each, followed by California with 11, Florida with 10, and Utah with nine.
Emergency removal takes effect immediately — affected providers must stop all training, enrollment, and certification activity at once. This list is separate from more than 160 providers that received notices of proposed removal, which begins an administrative process rather than an immediate shutdown. Drivers certified by that second group are linked to 239 commercial vehicle fatalities.
Students who completed training before a school’s removal can still use their certification. Those who started but did not finish must complete training through another approved provider.
