MINERAL POINT, WISCONSIN — A 22-year-old Oklahoma man fell asleep at the wheel of his pickup truck while towing a horse trailer on northbound US Highway 151 near Exit 40 in the Mineral Point area Friday morning, sending the vehicle into the median, back across the northbound lanes, and rolling over off the roadway. All three occupants and the horse inside the trailer escaped with minor or no injuries.
Iowa County Sheriff’s Office responded at approximately 7:08 a.m. on August 14. The driver was operating a 2022 Ford F-250 when he fell asleep. The truck entered the median, crossed back across the northbound lanes, and rolled over. No one was transported by ambulance. A large-animal veterinarian was contacted to assess the horse.
The driver was cited for inattentive driving and child-restraint violations.
Assisting agencies included Mineral Point Police Department, Mineral Point Fire Department, Mineral Point EMS, Dodgeville EMS, Al’s Towing, and Guy’s Towing.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
