ATWATER, CALIFORNIA — CHP Merced Officer Briones pulled over a commercial vehicle in Atwater after spotting tomato juice from the truck’s load actively leaking onto the roadway — a hazard that might not look serious at first glance but can reduce traction and create slick conditions for drivers, especially motorcyclists.
CHP noted that the further the truck travels, the more material gets deposited on the road surface. Liquids and agricultural byproducts can create dangerous conditions that are easy to miss until a vehicle is already sliding.
“It’s not always about speed. It’s not always about the size of the truck. Sometimes it’s spotting a problem that could create a hazard for everyone traveling behind it,” CHP Merced said.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
