One Person Trapped in SUV After Crash With Tractor-Trailer on Virginia I-77; Both Car Occupants Hospitalized, Truck Driver Unhurt

CARROLL COUNTY, VIRGINIA — Two people were hospitalized Saturday evening after an SUV and a tractor-trailer collided on northbound Interstate 77 near mile marker 14.9 in Carroll County, leaving one occupant trapped inside the vehicle.

Hillsville Fire Department responded just before 6 p.m. on October 10. Crews arrived to find one person trapped in the passenger vehicle. Squad 1 removed both doors to access the patient. Rescue 1 and Engine 2 assisted with the extrication. Patient care was transferred to Carroll County Fire and Rescue Medic 1, which transported both car occupants to a local hospital by ground. The tractor-trailer driver was not injured.

Virginia State Police and Hillsville Police Department also assisted on scene.
