EPPING, NEW HAMPSHIRE — State police conducting a welfare check on a tractor-trailer that had been parked at the Route 101 eastbound weigh station in Epping for an extended period of time Sunday afternoon found the driver dead inside the locked cab after firefighters helped gain entry to the vehicle.
New Hampshire State Police responded around 5 p.m. on Sunday. The 2024 Peterbilt was locked, prompting troopers to request assistance from the Epping Fire Department to access the cab. The driver, an adult male, was found deceased inside. An autopsy was conducted by the New Hampshire Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The driver was positively identified and next of kin have been notified. His identity is being withheld pending the ongoing investigation.
State police said the death does not appear suspicious and there is no known threat to public safety. The eastbound weigh station was closed for approximately seven hours before reopening just before midnight.
