BOW, NEW HAMPSHIRE — A Maine truck driver faces multiple charges including DUI and drug possession after his tractor-trailer destroyed approximately 200 feet of guardrail on southbound Interstate 89 early Sunday morning, closing multiple lanes for five hours.
New Hampshire State Police Troop D responded just after 2:30 a.m. on May 3, 2026, to a reported crash on I-89 South at mile marker 0.6 after 911 callers reported a tractor-trailer had gone off the road into the median. Troopers arrived to find a blue and white 1996 Ford LTL pulling a white 2001 utility box trailer had struck and damaged approximately 200 feet of guardrail before coming to a stop. No injuries were reported.
The driver, identified as Michael Tibbetts, 45, of Berwick, Maine, was the sole occupant. An on-scene investigation determined impairment was a factor. Tibbetts was arrested and faces the following charges: DUI, possession of a controlled drug, transporting drugs in a motor vehicle, negligent driving, misuse of plates, operating an unregistered vehicle, and a lane control violation.
Tibbetts was released on personal recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in Concord District Court on May 29, 2026, at 8:15 a.m.
Multiple lanes of I-89 South in Bow remained closed for approximately five hours until the tractor-trailer was removed. New Hampshire Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
