SPENCER COUNTY, INDIANA — A grain truck driver had to be extricated and airlifted to a hospital Sunday morning after the truck overturned on County Road 500 N in Spencer County, requiring a multi-agency response and a lengthy extrication before the driver could be safely removed.
Luce Fire Territory, Ohio Township Fire, Spencer County EMS, and the Spencer County Sheriff responded at approximately 8:30 a.m. Due to the nature of the injuries and the length of time required for extrication, Air Evac 46 out of Evansville was called for air transport. Tri-State Towing and Recovery was also called to handle the overturned truck and the spilled grain. The driver was safely extricated and transported for medical care.
Responders used the opportunity to remind the public that harvest season is underway and that large agricultural equipment will be traveling on backroads throughout the county, particularly important with SR-66 currently closed and traffic being rerouted onto smaller roads.
“Please be aware, especially with SR66 being closed, that it is harvest time and large equipment will be on the backroads this time of year. Be Safe,” Luce Fire said.
