LASALLE COUNTY, ILLINOIS — An Illinois State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Bureau trooper stopped a tractor-trailer on eastbound Interstate 80 just outside LaSalle Friday morning and found multiple pallets of marijuana and cannabis products weighing approximately 5,858 pounds — nearly three tons — inside the trailer.
The stop occurred around 11:30 a.m. on September 4. The driver, Mahmoud B. Bazrouk, 41, of Norridge, and the co-driver, Haed O. Samham, 45, of Harwood Heights, were taken into custody without incident. ISP presented the case to the LaSalle County State’s Attorney’s Office and both men were charged with cannabis trafficking, a Class X felony. Both are being held at the LaSalle County Jail pending their initial court appearances.
The estimated street value of the seized cannabis was not released but is likely worth millions of dollars.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
