CHALLIS, IDAHO — A 51-year-old Ammon man was killed Thursday morning after the gravel-loaded tractor-trailer he was driving drifted off US Highway 93 into a borrow pit, and the tractor and trailer separated as he tried to get back on the road — with the tractor rolling once before coming to rest on its wheels and the trailer overturning onto its top.
Custer County Coroner Chad Workman identified the driver as William Park. Idaho State Police said the crash occurred around 10:35 a.m. on northbound US-93. The truck left the right side of the road into the borrow pit. Park attempted to steer the tractor back onto the highway, but as the tractor returned to the road, it separated from the trailer, which was still in the pit. The tractor rolled once and came to rest upright. The trailer overturned.
Park was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt. The crash remains under investigation.
