500 Tesla Semi-Trucks to Be Deployed Across Five States Starting in September by Autonomous Trucking Company; Amazon Among Key Customers

AUSTIN, TEXAS β€” Einride, an autonomous and electric trucking company with its U.S. headquarters in Austin, plans to begin deploying 500 Tesla Semi trucks across freight corridors in Texas, California, New Jersey, Illinois, and Georgia starting in September, with rollouts continuing in phases over the next two years.

The trucks will operate on Einride’s fleet intelligence platform and serve customers including Amazon. The company says the partnership represents a step toward converting approximately $800 million in potential annual recurring revenue into active freight capacity.

Dan Priestley, director of Tesla Semi, said the deployment reflects the economic advantages of electric heavy trucks at scale. “EV heavy trucks provide lower costs per mile from fuel savings, reduced maintenance and better uptime over diesel trucks. These savings increase further through operational efficiency when deploying EV trucks at scale,” Priestley said.

Tesla has been working toward full-scale Semi production for several years and has committed to wide-scale deliveries beginning this year. The company’s Nevada factory, where the trucks are being built, will host a Tesla Semi inauguration event on September 24. The Semi has a maximum range of 500 miles.

Einride, which is headquartered in Sweden, declined to specify which Texas freight corridors would be served first or how many of the 500 trucks would be deployed in the state. Texas is a priority market β€” the Texas Department of Transportation projects trucks will carry freight worth $3.7 trillion by 2050, and Tesla has planned a Megacharger network for the Texas Triangle covering Austin-San Antonio, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Houston.
