ORANGE COUNTY, FLORIDA — A 67-year-old truck driver who arrived hours late to a warehouse delivery, got into a parking lot fight with an employee, threatened to kill him, and shot him in the arm was arrested days later in Georgia after his trucking company used GPS to track his semi northbound through Jacksonville and into the state.
David Crump is charged with attempted second-degree murder with a firearm and is being held without bond in the Orange County Jail. He appeared before an Orange County judge Friday and was appointed a public defender. His next hearing is set for September 10.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting occurred around noon on August 26 near Boice Pond Road. Crump was a third-party contractor making a drop-off at a local distribution center but arrived hours late. An argument broke out in the parking lot between Crump and the worker.
According to the affidavit, a witness told detectives he saw two men arguing, one holding a firearm. The suspect punched the victim, the victim punched back, and then the suspect fired. A video reviewed by investigators captured Crump saying “I’ll kill you” while placing his hands around the victim’s neck. The victim was shot once in the arm.
After the shooting Crump got into his truck and left. He called the company he contracted for, and that company tracked the vehicle by GPS northbound through Jacksonville into Georgia. Glynn County Police in Georgia confirmed an officer spotted a vehicle matching the description from the Florida lookout notice and took Crump into custody. He was then returned to Orange County.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
