CHESTER COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA — Firefighters from several companies responded to a tractor-trailer fire on the Pennsylvania Turnpike early Sunday, October 25, cutting openings in the side and roof of the trailer to reach hot spots inside.

Ludwigs Corner Fire Company was dispatched shortly before 7 a.m. to assist Lionville Fire Company. Engine 73-5 arrived with a crew of five and found crews from Engine 47-2 and Engine 47-5 already on scene with most of the fire knocked down.

The Engine 73-5 crew was assigned to overhaul operations. Part of the crew worked with Station 47 firefighters to open the side of the trailer for better access to the contents. The rest of the crew climbed on top of the trailer and cut an opening in the roof so water could be flowed from above onto remaining hot spots. Engine 73-5 also supplied its tank water to Engine 47-5 to support the overhaul.

Crews stayed until the remaining hot spots were out. Engine 73-5 cleared the scene shortly before 8:30 a.m.

The cause of the fire, the cargo, and whether anyone was hurt have not been released.
