FLORIDA — Nearly $73,000 has been raised for the family of Alejandro Jacomino Gonzalez, the 41-year-old Cuban truck driver who was found dead in Georgia after disappearing from a Florida rest area in what the FBI investigated as a suspected hijacking.

A GoFundMe page written in Spanish describes Gonzalez as a great worker, father, husband, and important contributor to his family and community. As of Monday, May 4, the page had received 587 donations totaling $73,231 toward a $110,000 goal.

Gonzalez was last seen on April 17 at the Brevard County Rest Area on I-95 South near Grant-Valkaria, Florida, while transporting vehicles from the Port of Brunswick, Georgia to Miami. The FBI issued a missing person alert on April 24. On April 28, Gonzalez’s family said the FBI informed his wife that his body had been found in Georgia. The FBI has not issued an official statement confirming the death.

Donations can be made through the GoFundMe page at gofundme.com/f/apoyo-para-la-familia-de-alejandro-gonzalez.
