LAREDO, TEXAS — A commercial vehicle inspection at the Laredo Port of Entry on September 22 turned up 153 pounds of narcotics including 94 pounds of fentanyl — enough for nearly 20 million potentially lethal doses — along with methamphetamine, heroin, and eutylone worth an estimated $1.4 million combined.
Texas DPS Criminal Investigations Division Special Agents responded at 7 a.m. to a request for assistance from U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents conducting the inspection. The search of the commercial vehicle uncovered 94 pounds of fentanyl, 26 pounds of methamphetamine, 18 pounds of heroin, and 15 pounds of eutylone.
The driver, Ernesto Jaime, 53, of Wisconsin, and his passenger, Enrique Ramirez Valle, 51, of Oklahoma, were arrested and booked into the Webb County Jail on felony possession of a controlled substance charges.
The seizure was part of Operation Lone Star, a joint operation with federal authorities.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
