THORNTON, ILLINOIS — Cook County Sheriff’s Police Organized Retail Crime investigators recovered 75 drums of stolen food-grade glycerin worth approximately $60,000 after tracking the rerouted trailer to a street in Thornton — a theft that involved cloning the shipment’s documents to redirect the load to a different destination entirely.

Investigators received a tip on September 17 that the shipment had been stolen and may be in Cook County. They determined that someone had cloned the shipping documents to reroute the trailer away from its intended destination. Detectives located the commercial vehicle in the 16800 block of Canal Street in Thornton and stopped it. All 75 drums were recovered and returned to the rightful owner.

No arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing. Glycerin is a colorless, odorless liquid used in food and pharmaceutical production.
