ADAMS COUNTY, COLORADO — The Adams County Sheriff’s Office is warning fleet operators and diesel fuel card holders to review their accounts for fraudulent charges after card skimming devices — and in some cases razor blades glued just above the keypads — were found on fuel pumps throughout the Denver metro area.

The sheriff’s office did not identify the specific fueling locations due to the ongoing investigation. The razor blades were found glued to pumps directly above the keypads where the skimming devices were installed.

ACSO specifically called on fleet and diesel fuel card holders who fueled in the Denver metro area to check their accounts for unauthorized charges immediately.

What To Do

  • Check your accounts regularly for unauthorized or suspicious charges.
  • Inspect the pump before you pay. Skimming devices can be installed on fuel pumps, ATMs, and point-of-sale terminals inside stores.
  • Don’t touch suspicious devices. If you notice anything unusual, notify station staff and report it to law enforcement.
  • Report fraudulent charges to your financial institution and law enforcement even if your card company has already reimbursed you — your report could help investigators identify additional victims and connect related cases.

Anyone in unincorporated Adams County who believes their card was skimmed is asked to contact the Adams County Sheriff’s Office at 303-288-1535. Those in cities within Adams County should contact that city’s jurisdiction.
