California Inspectors Find Vehicle Displaying a Laminated Photo of a License Plate Instead of the Real Thing

GOLDEN GATE DIVISION, CALIFORNIA — Officers from the CHP Golden Gate Division Commercial Operations Unit encountered a vehicle displaying a laminated photograph in place of an actual license plate during a recent inspection.

CHP said that while a printed or laminated copy may resemble the original, it is not a legally issued replacement.

Under California Vehicle Code Sections 5200 and 5201, vehicles must display the required license plates, properly mounted, securely fastened, and clearly legible. CHP’s advice to anyone with a missing plate: don’t do this.

The post did not say what type of vehicle was involved, what citations were issued, or when the inspection took place.
