RUSH TOWNSHIP, PENNSYLVANIA — A tractor-trailer sheared off a utility pole on US Route 322 in Rush Township early in the morning, spilling a large amount of oil onto the roadway. The driver was not hurt.

The Philipsburg Fire Department was dispatched just before 1:30 a.m. to the 3700 block of Port Matilda Highway for a vehicle accident with unknown injuries. The first report said a tractor-trailer had hit a utility pole and left live wires down. Rescue 57, Engine Rescue 57, and fire police found the truck at rest on the shoulder of the westbound lane. The driver denied injuries and refused EMS care.

Firefighters found that the downed line in the travel lane was not an electric line, and they moved it safely off the roadway. Rescue 57 started fluid control because of the oil that had leaked onto the road. Engine Rescue checked the truck for other hazards and helped fire police direct traffic through the single open lane.

Utility companies and PennDOT were contacted. Pennsylvania State Police stayed on scene waiting for PennDOT and the tow truck. The westbound lane reopened after about an hour.

The fire department warned morning commuters to use caution, since towing, PennDOT, or utility crews might still be on scene and a lane restriction was possible.

The post did not say what date the crash happened or what caused the truck to leave the road.
