MERCER COUNTY, NORTH DAKOTA — A truck lost its entire load of gravel on Highway 49 (24th Street SW) near mile marker 88 in Mercer County on October 30, slowing traffic in the area, the North Dakota Highway Patrol said. The driver was cited for a leaking or sifting load.

NDHP used the spill to remind drivers to secure their loads. “Whether you’re hauling gravel, dirt, equipment, or other materials, make sure your load is properly secured before hitting the road. Loose materials can create dangerous conditions for other motorists. A few extra minutes to check your load can prevent a crash, roadway hazard, or citation.”

NDHP did not release the driver’s name or say whether anyone was hurt.
