EVANSVILLE, INDIANA — An Indiana State Police trooper conducting a commercial vehicle inspection in the Evansville area found critical trailer safety violations and a 2-year-old child sitting in the front passenger seat wearing only a lap belt.

Trooper Angermeier discovered the trailer violations during the inspection. He also noticed the child, who was not secured in an appropriate child safety seat, according to the Indiana State Police Evansville District, which released the details October 29.

The driver was cited and the truck was placed out of service. The commercial vehicle was parked in a safe location until the necessary repairs were made and a compliant child safety seat was obtained.

“Whether you’re driving a passenger vehicle or a commercial truck, safety must always come first, especially when children are involved,” ISP said.

ISP did not say when the inspection took place, what the specific trailer violations were, or what citations were issued.
