COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA — A Chevy Suburban with stolen plates raced through an intersection while fleeing police and hit the cab of a FedEx tractor-trailer early Wednesday, October 28, in a crash caught on an Iowa Department of Transportation camera.

The crash happened around 12:40 a.m. at 24th Street and Veterans Memorial Highway. Council Bluffs Police said officers tried to pull over the Suburban, which had stolen plates out of Lincoln, but the driver fled and sped through the intersection before hitting the FedEx truck. Video from the DOT camera shows damage to the front of the semi-trailer after the SUV went through the intersection, with police cruisers and flashing lights visible behind the SUV.

The SUV driver was taken to an Omaha hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The FedEx driver declined medical treatment.

Investigators have applied for warrants to arrest the SUV driver for eluding police and reckless driving. The driver’s name has not been released.
