PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA — Three suspects broke the seal on a parked tractor-trailer on Southampton Road in Northeast Philadelphia early Tuesday morning and made off with four pallets of ground beef, the latest in a pattern of meat thefts from trucks in the Philadelphia area.

Philadelphia Police said the theft occurred around 3:40 a.m. on October 6. The three men approached a 2023 Freightliner, broke the seal on the rear trailer doors, entered the trailer, and removed the ground beef. They loaded the stolen pallets into three vehicles — a dark-colored Ford Fusion, a white Ford Fusion, and a black Ford SUV of an unknown model — before fleeing.

One suspect was described as wearing a gray hoodie and black pants. No descriptions were provided for the other two. The investigation is ongoing.

The theft is the latest in a long string of cargo thefts from Philadelphia-area trucks. In September, four masked men broke into a refrigerated semi outside Ritter Foods in South Philadelphia and stole half a pallet of Black Angus beef ribs. That same morning a Krispy Kreme box truck was stolen during a delivery stop in Frankford. Previous thefts in the area have also targeted frozen meat, crab meat, salmon, and cod.
