MONROE TOWNSHIP, ILLINOIS — An escort vehicle driver rear-ended the oversized load they were supposed to be guiding on Interstate 39 near mile marker 112 Monday afternoon in what firefighters say is the latest in a string of rear-end crashes near a construction zone in the area.

Monroe Township Fire and Ambulance Protection District responded at approximately 1:30 p.m. on October 5. The pilot vehicle driver declined transport to a hospital. Lynn-Scott-Rock Fire/EMS, Illinois State Police, and Maggio Trucking assisted on scene.

The fire district used the incident to issue a warning to drivers about conditions near the construction zone. “We have responded to a string of rear-end crashes in this area. Please pay attention and slow down BEFORE reaching the construction zone. Traffic can back up well before construction begins. Keep your eyes on the road, leave extra following distance, and be prepared to stop. Help keep fellow drivers, construction workers, and emergency responders safe.”
