29-Year-Old Jacksonville Man Killed After Swerving Around Disabled Vehicle on I-295 and Striking Semi That Had Stopped on Shoulder to Help

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA — A 29-year-old Jacksonville man died early Sunday morning after swerving to avoid a disabled vehicle on Interstate 295 and rear-ending a semi-truck that was stopped on the inside shoulder while its driver assisted the disabled vehicle.

Florida Highway Patrol said the man was driving southbound in the center lane of I-295 at Wilson Boulevard when he veered left to avoid the disabled vehicle and struck the rear of the stopped semi. His vehicle rotated and came to rest blocking the left lane. He died from his injuries. No one else was injured.

All southbound lanes of I-295 at Wilson Boulevard were closed for hours following the crash.
