Alabama Supply Truck Employee Arrested for Smuggling Marijuana Into Prison; 516 Grams Found Hidden on Pallet Being Unloaded

BARBOUR COUNTY, ALABAMA — A supply distributor employee was arrested after correctional staff at Easterling Correctional Facility discovered a package of marijuana, tobacco, and rolling papers hidden on a pallet being unloaded from a delivery truck on September 25.

Alabama Department of Corrections staff found the package while unloading the supply truck. It contained approximately 516 grams of marijuana, 169 grams of tobacco, and two packages of rolling papers. ADOC Narcotics Unit agents investigated and determined that Richard Nixo n had placed the package on a pallet shipped to the facility.

Nixon was arrested September 29 and taken to the Montgomery County jail. He was transferred to the Barbour County jail the following day after posting bond on the Montgomery County charge. He faces first-degree possession of marijuana in Montgomery County and second- and third-degree promoting prison contraband charges in Barbour County.

The investigation is ongoing.
