SANTA ROSA, CALIFORNIA — A CHP officer patrolling the Santa Rosa area spotted a pickup truck with an overloaded bed towing a box trailer with its rear door open and debris hanging out — and the improperly installed tow hitch dragging on the pavement and throwing sparks. When the officer made contact with the driver, signs of drug intoxication were observed. The driver was arrested and booked.

CHP used the stop as a reminder about towing and load securement safety. “Before you tow or haul, make sure your load is secured, your equipment is properly installed, and your vehicle is capable of safely handling the load. What might seem like a quick trip can create a serious hazard for you and everyone else on the road.”

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
