Virginia School Bus Carrying 41 Elementary Students Collides With Tractor-Trailer; One Child Hospitalized as Precaution

PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, VIRGINIA — A school bus carrying 41 students from David A. Harrison Elementary School collided with a tractor-trailer on County Drive near Prince George Drive in Prince George County Thursday afternoon, sending one child to the hospital as a precaution and prompting the evacuation and evaluation of all remaining students.

Prince George County Fire and EMS and the Prince George County Police Department responded to the crash just before 4 p.m. on October 1. Bus No. 4 was transporting students home following dismissal when the collision occurred. First responders safely evacuated all students from the bus. One child was transported to a local hospital as a precaution. The remaining students and the bus driver were taken to the Central Wellness Center at 11023 Prince George Drive for further evaluation and reunification with parents. All students were safely reunited with their families by 5:30 p.m.

No serious injuries were reported. The cause of the crash and any possible charges have not been determined. Prince George County Police Department is investigating.
