PHARR, TEXAS — CBP officers at the Pharr International Bridge intercepted nearly 2,000 pounds of methamphetamine hidden inside a commercial blackberry shipment arriving from Mexico on March 23, 2026. The drugs carried an estimated street value of $17,737,200.
CBP officers at the cargo facility encountered a tractor-trailer traveling from Reynosa, Mexico during the evening hours. They referred the vehicle to a secondary inspection dock and ran it through nonintrusive scanning equipment. During the search, officers pulled 862 packages of methamphetamine from among the boxes of blackberries. The total weight came to 1,984 pounds. Officers seized both the drugs and the tractor-trailer.

Homeland Security Investigations special agents launched a criminal investigation into the smuggling attempt. No arrests or driver information have been released.
“Our CBP officers use all available tools and technology to thwart smuggling attempts at our international crossings,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez of the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry. “This massive interception of meth illustrates our commitment to keeping our communities safe.”
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
