MILLERS CREEK, NORTH CAROLINA — A semi-truck lost control on a curve on North Carolina Highway 16 near Old Campground Road in Millers Creek Tuesday evening, struck a guardrail, and plunged approximately 30 feet down an embankment before coming to rest on its side against trees.
Emergency crews responded around 5 p.m. The driver was injured and transported to a nearby hospital. Troopers were working Wednesday morning to determine the driver’s current condition as part of their ongoing investigation.
The Millers Creek Fire Department said arriving units found the truck had hit the guardrail and gone about 30 feet down the hill into the tree line. Photos from the department showed the truck on its side.
Highway 16 was closed for hours during the investigation before reopening Wednesday morning. Alternate routes during the closure included the Blue Ridge Parkway from NC-16 to US-421, or NC-16 to NC-183 then to US-221 and continuing to US-421.
