VISALIA, CALIFORNIA — A California Highway Patrol commercial officer stopped a tractor-trailer on State Route 99 after spotting a heavily damaged trailer that officials said created a potential hazard for other drivers.
The traffic stop happened Thursday, Sept. 17, on SR-99 near Visalia.
Trailer Found Unsafe During Stop
CHP Visalia said a commercial officer conducted the stop after noticing the condition of the tractor-trailer combination.
During the inspection, the vehicle was found to be in violation of California Vehicle Code §24002(a), which applies to vehicles being operated in an unsafe condition.
According to CHP, the condition of the trailer created a potential hazard to the motoring public.
Corrective Action Required
CHP said the driver was required to take corrective action before continuing.
The agency did not release additional details about where the trailer was headed or what caused the damage.
CHP Emphasizes Commercial Vehicle Enforcement
CHP Visalia said commercial vehicle enforcement helps ensure large trucks and trailers operating on California highways are properly maintained and safe for everyone on the road.
“Safe equipment. Safe drivers. Safer roads,” CHP said.
No crash or injuries were reported in connection with the stop.
