HAMPDEN, MAINE — A 59-year-old North Carolina truck driver suffered minor injuries early Thursday morning after falling asleep at the wheel on southbound Interstate 95 in Hampden, sending his tractor-trailer off the road and onto its side on the shoulder near mile marker 178.
Maine State Police responded around 3:27 a.m. on September 17. The driver, Mark Pearson of Raeford, North Carolina, declined medical treatment at the scene. The preliminary investigation indicates fatigue caused the truck to leave the roadway and overturn.
Bouchard’s Towing was expected to remove the truck throughout the morning. One southbound lane remained closed while the passing lane stayed open. Maine State Police was assisted by the Hampden Police Department, Hampden Fire Department, Maine DEP, and Maine DOT.
Police reminded motorists to get adequate rest before driving and never drive while fatigued.
