LADSON, SOUTH CAROLINA — The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Thursday that the man killed in Wednesday’s fatal multi-vehicle crash on Ladson Road was 33-year-old Deputy Michael Hendricks, who died while on duty when a tractor-trailer and a Ford pickup truck collided head-on near Industrial Center Drive.
South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash occurred around 11:45 a.m. The tractor-trailer was traveling east on Ladson Road when the westbound Ford pickup crossed into its path and the two vehicles crashed. Ladson Road from Highway 78 to Lincolnville Road was shut down following the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
Hendricks joined the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office in April 2023 and most recently served as a member of the department’s Metro Unit. He is survived by his wife and five children.
“Losing a member of our CCSO family so suddenly leaves a hole that is hard to describe,” said Charleston County Sheriff Carl Ritchie. “Deputy Michael Hendricks was someone who showed up every day ready to serve, ready to help people, and ready to make a difference. That’s who he was, on duty and off. We are grieving alongside his family, friends, and coworkers, and we ask our community to keep them in their thoughts and prayers.”
The sheriff’s office said it will not be releasing additional details out of respect for the Hendricks family’s privacy during their time of grief. Serve and Connect has launched a fundraiser to support the family.
