MUSTANG RIDGE, TEXAS — A truck driver who allegedly assaulted a Pilot truck stop employee with a club and threatened to kill him led police on a pursuit up Highway 130 before barricading himself inside his cab, forcing officers to break his window and deploy pepper balls to get him out — then refused to get on the ground and had to be Tasered before being taken into custody.
Mustang Ridge Police Department responded at 11 p.m. on August 26 to the Pilot at 10700 US-183 South after a disturbance call. Investigators determined the truck driver had refused to move his rig from the middle of the driveway when asked by a Pilot staff member, then assaulted the employee with a club and threatened to kill him. The employee escaped and called 911, providing a description of the commercial vehicle.
The driver had already left northbound on US-183 before officers arrived. Another MRPD officer spotted the truck and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop. A pursuit began on northbound State Highway 130, with Travis County Sheriff’s Office and Texas DPS joining in.
Officers deployed tire deflation devices and successfully deflated the front passenger side tire. The truck continued a short distance before stopping in the 18400 block of SH-130 in the Pflugerville area.
The driver refused to exit the truck. Officers broke the driver’s side window and deployed pepper balls into the cab. After several minutes the driver exited through the passenger side. He then refused orders to get on the ground, and a Taser was deployed. He was taken into custody.
The driver appeared to be intoxicated on unknown narcotics and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation. Medical staff determined he needed further treatment and admitted him.
