TEMPE, ARIZONA — An owner-operator was cited and placed out of service on AZ-202 near Scottsdale Road in Tempe after a Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit trooper stopped the truck and found it was operating with mismatched license plates, an expired registration, no company name, no USDOT number, no insurance, no CDL, no valid medical examination, and the driver not wearing his required corrective lenses.
AZDPS noted the driver had previously been cited for operating without a CDL and without a valid medical examination — making this a repeat offense on multiple counts.
The vehicle displayed a front Texas license plate that did not belong to it and a rear Arizona plate that had expired in January. There was no company name or USDOT number visible anywhere on the truck.
“This wasn’t a ghost truck — it was an unmarked, improperly registered, and uninsured commercial vehicle operating far outside the law. When CMVs try to blend in without proper identifiers, it creates serious safety risks for everyone on the road. Troopers depend on visible, accurate information to protect Arizona’s roads. When a vehicle hides that information, intentionally or otherwise, it puts lives at risk,” AZDPS said.
The driver received several citations and was placed out of service.
